This tour is designed for History/Humanities teachers and pre-service teachers, professional and amateur historians, undergraduate and postgraduate History students, members of Australian school communities with connections to the wars, and anyone interested in Australian and European experiences of C20th wars in France and aspects of French medieval and revolutionary histories.
The tour includes within its aims the development of all participants' historical knowledge, critical questioning and empathy.
In particular, teachers and pre-service teachers can expect rich opportunities to collect and create classroom resources, develop teaching and learning strategies in History (8-12) and establish professional networks nationally and internationally.
All participants receive:
-pre- and post-tour assistance in historical research, especially of the wars, including experiences of individuals (might be family), and details of battles, cemeteries, grave locations and local or school communities' experiences (homefront as well as battlefront, especially those of former teachers and pupils)
-serious consideration of requests to visit particular sites, museums and galleries if sufficient notice and within the broad tour route
-comprehensive reading lists, readings, tour notes and pre-tour seminar (Melbourne CBD)
-reference books and teaching resources (Years 8-12) donated by the Australian War Memorial, Department of Veterans' Affairs, History Teachers' Association of Victoria, Ryebuck Media and Somme Tourisme
-an opportunity for 'land content only' costing.
